School House at Weor - Labuan Bajo - Indonesia
School Completed : November 12th, 2012.
For those that have Kayaked with us in Flores Indonesia, you will understand what an amazing crew we have there. Our lead guide, Matias Midun, is very popular with our guests. He is a leader among his peers and lives life to the fullest. Matias is happiest when out in the Komodo National Park or back in his home village.
Matias is from a small village called Weor, about an hours walk from Labuan Bajo. Until now he has been teaching upwards of 40 students in his own home as these children have no access to the school system in Indonesia. To alleviate this pressure on his household and to teach the children in a more formal way, he has now completed the school in his village.
As you can see, the small school house has now finally been finished and the children now have a place to to learn. Drew Gordon and his partner Trudy Brentnall have donated $1000 to employ a full time teacher, something the children have never experienced. We will publish photos of the children at school and their progress from Matias and some of our guests over the next few months.
The next step is to send books and equipment. If you are interested in helping Matias please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will let you know what is needed.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed either financially or in kind.
